There was a time when people considered both reading and writing Magick…

People often ask me just how the Tarot works and what I tell them is that it is a language of symbol just like the alphabet, but cross cultural and that the symbols are more complex.  That is why I was so happy to run into this lovely retired librarian in my neighborhood this week! Her shirt said “Every book you’ve ever read is just a different combination of the same 26 letters.” All I could think of was “Right on!!!” and that reading and writing IS STILL Magick. It is Magick that you can take these two dimensional symbols that translate them into sounds and then put them together into words, and put those words into sentences, and those sentences into paragraphs creating a staggering pyramid of symbols, and that when you begin a senstence you don’t know how the hell you are going to end it, but somehow it works and conveys consciousness! We don’t even really understand how we do this! This is indeed Magick!

Well… the symbols of the Tarot are more complex then two dimensional letters, they are collective unconscious archetypes, with color, and texture, and have planetary, astrological, and Qabalistic meaning. The cards are archetypes of our unconscious mind and no matter where you live on the planet the archetypes of The Fool, The Hermit, Death, The Devil, and the Priestess all speak to us.

I can “read” the Tarot Cards because I am able to translate these symbols like someone might read Egyptian Hieroglyphs, and you know how some people say “a picture is worth a thousand words” there is so much the pictures on the Tarot Cards can tell you!
