Ricky Rebel Star Tarot Readings

Ricky Rebel is a Star! (photo source pslovecharli.com)

A few weeks back my partner and I went to an event called “Out at the Fair” at the San Diego County Fair that comes around just once a year. This particular fair has the reputation for being the biggest fair in the U.S. and goes through July 5th.   The rides are the craziest and largest I have ever seen. They certainly go beyond my days on the, in comparison, two-dimensional Zipper. These rides not only go in circles, but flip you around, up side down, and circumambulate through the sky with sudden heart sinking drops, and they are colossal! This is like a carnival on steroids! And the food is fried, fried, fried! You have deep fried twinkies, fried frog legs (ewww), deep fried slim-fast bars (why?), and even deep fried Starbucks coffee, and a triple decker burger between two Krispy Kreme Donuts for buns. Essentially Americana food culture at it’s worst (or best)! Of course you have the regular goodies, candy apples, cotton candy, and kettle corn too. The people running the games shout out to you constantly, beckoning you, taunting you to come over and win a larger than life Scooby Doo that you can’t possibly fit into your car! As Melissa and I meandered through the crowds,  with rainbow colored lights flashing into our eyes, and techno music blaring, we stumbled upon the stage that was made for “Out at the Fair” and this is when we found a Star!

Ricky Rebel was his name, and his style was magnetic! At first I thought it seemed to be industrial goth, and the costumes were very, shall we say, Ziggy Stardust. Meanwhile his dancing was dramatic, energetic, and yes Pop! He seemed to be a mix of goth, industrial, boy-band, gay-boy, and glam all at once. He was beautifully feminine and had electric blue hair. With each song Ricky Rebel changed his attire. One song he had a silver/gold one piece, the next number he was decked out like a geisha, and then another song he had a long and regal cape that he danced with and splayed out in perfect timing. His dancing was lively, acrobatic, and synchronized. I was mesmerized, and Melissa was too! Oh, and did I mention the sexy violinist! Is it even possible to blend the best showmanship of Marilyn Manson, Madonna, David Bowie, boy bands, and gay boy andro flare into one entertainer? Yes, and it is Ricky Rebel! One of his songs was called “Star” and all I could think about was that this lovely creature was definitely one of those, indeed, a miraculous and shiny Star!

Star Tarot Card, Ricky Rebel

At the San Diego County Fair I found a Star! The Star Tarot Card incarnate!

Ricky Rebel’s song “Star” made me think of the Star Tarot Card and everything it signifies to me personally, and in regard to who Ricky Rebel is and what he represents; being creative, authentic, and shining his truth where everyone can see his luminous magic and light! According to Aleister Crowley, the controversial and mysterious creator of the Thoth Tarot Deck, “Every man and woman is a star.” The Star card represents crystallization, trust in one-self, and connection with the Universal intelligence. Within the Star Card is a gorgeous Rubenesque woman, representing the Star Goddess Nuit, painted in the hues of blue and purple, she is shining a lantern like cup from the sky down onto her face where it’s light channels through her body and crystallizes into the Earth. This gesture represents her connection to divinity and her desire to transmute Universal energy into manifestation. She embodies the concept and belief that we are all an essential and precious spark of divinity,  and that we are all stars. She symbolizes the truth that we are each a conduit of Universal wisdom. The Star Card is sacred to Aquarius and draws into our view the concept of the Age of Aquarius or the New Age, where each individuals’ eccentricities and unique ways of being and expressing their truth are celebrated. The interesting thing about Stars is that most of the ones we see in the night sky have already died, so this archetype can also bring into light the idea of “legacy”, and what impact we want to leave here on Earth. How do we want others to remember us? How will we shine our light? And how can we best show our light?

Looking into Ricky Rebel’s past he was indeed the lead vocalist to the boy-band No Authority in 1997! His group was signed to Michael Jacskson’s record label and Madonna’s as well. He even toured with Destiny’s Child, Jessica Simpson, and Britney Spears. After No Authority’s break up he became the lead vocalist of Harlow, leant his voice to movie soundtracks, made TV show appearances, and starred in a ballet called “Pepito’s Story”. Now Ricky Rebel has launched his solo career after co-staring in My Chemical Romance’s “Na Na Na” and “Sing Videos”.

Truth is, throughout his career Ricky Rebel got a lot of guff for being gay, bi, queer, “too feminine”. That is why I find it so damn refreshing that he is able to perfectly weave and interlay all of his fabulous, sparkly, and seemingly contradictory performance skills right into being authentically himself, and completely rock it! And that is absolutely what I believe the “Star” video, and embodying the Star Card is all about.  Ricky Rebel owns who he is, and shines all of his unique qualities fiercely, unapologetically, and hypnotizes the audience with his truth. The result of his magic is not just eye and ear candy, it’s like winning the golden ticket to the whole Chocolate Factory!  And I sure do love Pop Rocks ;).

So, needless to say I have been “Star-struck”, and I assure you that you will be too!   Check out his video for “Star” right here, below! Doesn’t it make you want to dance?

…And Ricky Rebel, if you by chance read this blog, I would be delighted to give you a Tarot Card Reading, on me of course!
